Austin Music Map Launches!
Austin, Texas - the Live Music Capital of the World. On any given night, one can safely bet on being serenaded by the sounds of as many as 20 bands in a three-block radius of downtown’s Red River District. But that hardly scratches the surface. No, the true wonder of the Austin music scene is what often remains unseen: a renegade marching band floating down Lady Bird Lake; a secret performance unfolding under a bridge in East Austin; a family gospel worshipping in a church on Koenig Lane…These are the moments that have long provided the ground for Austin’s musical communities to take root and flourish.
That’s where the Austin Music Map, and YOU, come in. A participatory documentary project that creates portraits of the venues and spaces where musical communities gather, the Austin Music Map invites you to play the city and map the uncharted terrain of Austin’s rich sonic landscape. Take us into your corner of the city. Show us a musical venue we’ve never heard of before. Surprise us with your favorite undiscovered musician. Let us in on Austin’s best kept musical secrets.
Austin Music Map is produced by Delaney Hall, KUT, AIR and Zeega. The project is part of Localore—a nationwide production of AIR in collaboration with Zeega, with principal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
